Ingredients for Making Alkaki

Wheat
Yoghurt/milk
Sugar/honey
Tamarind/lemon
Cooking oil/groundnut

Procedures for Making Alkaki

Step 1: Spread the wheat on a tray and hand-pick any unwanted substances in the wheat.
Step 2: Pound to reduce the chaff (optional). Then wash with water and spread to dry.
Step 3: Grind the wheat, not to powder form (i.e. quartz)
Step 4: Get the container and mix the grinded wheat with the yogurt, milk, and oil. Mix it to form a dough.
Step 5: Cover it for 3-5 hours.
Step 6: Mix it again, this time on the chopping board. Apply oil to avoid sticking.
Step 7: Mould to the desired shapes and cover them with a clean towel.
Step 8: Using a frying pan, cook the sugar in the desired quantity on a low flame.
Step 9: Stir well and add a pinch of diluted tamarind (tsamiya) or lemon to form a sugar solution.
Step 10: Keep it warm to avoid solidification.
Step 11: Fry the dough (Alkaki) using a frying pan on low flame. Allow it to turn golden color.
Step 12: Sieve it and immediately pour it inside the sugar solution. Allow for 3-5 minutes.
Step 13: Finally, pour it into a clean container and enjoy.

How to Serve Alkaki

It is served on a special plate, with sealed leathers customised just like other snacks. And again, you can serve your delicious Alkaki with a drink of your choice, e.g., Zobo, Ginger Drink, Kunun Aya, etc.

Occasions to Serve Alkaki

As earlier established, Alkaki is best served at weddings, Naming Ceremonies, Meetings, and even for Breakfast.

Alkaki could also be taken anytime regardless of period or time. For instance, I eat Alkaki any time I feel like it. It’s one of my favourite snacks.

How to Store Alkaki

Alkaki can be stored in containers (not air-tight). It can also be refrigerated.

However, if you chose to refrigerate your Alkaki, you are not to eat it as soon as you bring it out. You have to wait for some minutes for it to thaw.

Alkaki is rich in carbohydrates, minerals (to maintain your body’s pH; it makes your bones strong, etc.), vitamins, and antioxidants that help prevent the body from certain cell damage.

Semovita is a popular Nigerian food commonly eaten in many parts of Nigeria. In this write-up, I will teach you how to make Tuwon Semovita. It is very smooth, moldable, and easy to prepare. In addition, it is prepared just like Tuwon Masara, Tuwon Dawa, and the like with just a slight difference.

Your Semovita can go with so many kinds of soups e.g. Draw Soups such as Miyan Kubewa, Miyan Karkashi, Egusi Soup, Ewedu Soup, Ogbono Soup, Vegetable Soups such as Miyan Alayyahu (Spinach Soup), and so on. It is made from high-quality premium wheat. It is healthy, nutritious, and aids digestion.

Ingredients

1 Sachet of Semovita
2 litres of water
A cup of groundnut oil

Procedures for Making Tuwon Semo

STEP 1: Over medium heat, put a clean pot.

STEP 2: Pour the water into it and cover the lid. Allow to come to a boil.

STEP 3: Get your clean bowl and pour half of the Semivita powder into it.

STEP 4: Add a cup of groundnut oil to the bowl.

STEP 5: Mix the content in the bowl with water and pour it into the boiling water. Preferably, make this mixture just before the water in your pot starts boiling.

STEP 6: Stir it with your wooden spatula gently until well mixed with the boiling water.

STEP 7: Cover the pot lid and allow simmering for some 10 minutes.

STEP 8: After like 5 minutes, check the content in the pot and stir it a little bit.

STEP 9: Now, start pouring the remaining Semovita powder and stir simultaneously until a smooth consistency is formed. Mix well to avoid lumps. Allow to cook for 5 minutes.

STEP 10: Put down your pot, begin to pack it with your parker, and pour it into the nylon leather while you smoothly mold it. Repeat this until all the content in the pot is exhausted.

STEP 11: Put the molds of Semovita either on a plate or in a food flask.

STEP 12: Enjoy it with the desired soup.

How to Serve Tuwon Semovita

Semovita is best served with traditional soups like Okra Soup (Miyan Kubewa), Egusi Soup (Miyan Agushi), Ewedu Soup (Miyan Lalo), Vegetable Soup (Such as Miyan Rama or Miyan Alayyahu), and any other desired soup.

How to Store Tuwon Semovita

It can be stored in a food flask or in a container and will last for 24 hours. If you want it to last longer, store it in a refrigerator. However, it loses its taste and firmness when not consumed within 24 hours of its preparation.

It is also not very cool for double-fire.
