Kebbi is a state located in North-western Nigeria with the capital located at Birnin Kebbi. The state was carved out of Sokoto State in 1991 by the then military administration of General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida. The State is bordered by Sokoto State, Niger State, Zamfara State, Dosso Region in the Republic of Niger and Benin Republic.
The state was one of the original 7 Banza Bakwai states in Hausa ancient history. Gwandu, one of the four emirates of the state was once one of the administrative capitals of the Fulani Empire, along with Sokoto. The state now known as Kebbi became part of the British colony in 1903 and was amalgamated as part of the Northern region along with the Southern region to give rise to Modern Nigeria.
Land of Equity
Kebbi State had a population total of over 4 million people (4,440,050) according to NBS Projections of 2017, making it the 20th populous state in Nigeria.
With a landmass of 36,800 km², The state is one of the largest states in Nigeria in terms of landmass.
The present Governor of the state is Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of the APC elected in 2015, and reelected in 2019, along with his Deputy Samaila Yombe Dabai .

1. Kebbi was one of the Banza bakwai (the seven illegitimate Hausa states), which extended over what is now northwestern Nigeria and southwestern Niger. Gwandu, an important town in the state later became an administrative capital of the Usman Danfodio Fulani Empire.
2. Arugungu fishing Festival is one of the largest fishing festivals in the whole world. The festival, which started in the year 2002 was meant to encourage fishing activities for which Arugungu is known for is attended by many local and foreign dignitaries. It was launched by President Obasanjo in 2002.
3. Zuru local government is a highly academic town that has produced over 40 Professors and counting. The town has also produced top military generals, among which include General Musa Bamaiyi a Muslim, and General Ishaya Bamaiyi a Christian. The town is known for its heterogeneity.
4. Although Birnin Kebbi has declined as a river port because of silting as well as political conditions, it now serves as a collecting point for peanuts (groundnuts) and rice and as a major local market centre in millet, sorghum, rice, fish, goats, and cattle.
5. Kebbi state is the highest producer of rice in Nigeria, with 4 Million tons of rice produced annually, making her the rice capital of the nation. A rice pyramid was unveiled in the state in 2021.

Other livestock and crops grown in Kebbi include; cattle, sheep, goats, rice, maize, beans, soya beans, millet, groundnut, cotton, sugar cane etc.
Kebbi state has four first-class emirates namely; Arungu, Gwandu, Yauri and Zuru emirates. The Emirs are as follows;
